The food's great, we have no complaints.
La Terrazza is great place for dinner with friends and family or a lazy, leisurely Sunday brunch.
The first thing you notice when you arrive at the Hyatt Regency in Pune is the vast water feature that marks out the drive. Lit up with lamps and decorated with marble lotus flowers it, the pool reflects the yellow Rajasthan stone exteriors of the hotel.
What catches your attention in the hotel lobby is the one-floor length chandelier; the crystals sparkle as you walk below it, onwards towards the Hyatt Regency's restaurants and bar.
The hotel has an all-day dining restaurant, called The Café as well as an Italian restaurant called La Terrazza. During the week, La Terrazza, which is headed by Chef Luca who comes from Italy's Tuscan region, is open only for dinner. The weekend lunch service includes an elaborate Sunday brunch that spills over to The Café next door. Guests are encouraged to take their pick from the buffets at both restaurants.
We were staying at the hotel overnight, and dined at La Terrazza that night. The restaurant has a live kitchen up front, where you can see your pizza being made. La Terrazza also has an impressive wine cellar (you can also visit the Single Malt & Co bar next door for a pre-dinner drink or a night cap).
For starters we tucked into pizza (with sundried tomatoes, olives and pesto, very delicious), stuffed mushrooms, and two salads - a fabulous, healthy rocket and parmesan salad and a fresh mozzarella Insalata Caprese.
Our next - main - course included spinach and ricotta ravioli with a beautiful sage sauce, creamy pesto fusilli and eggplant parmesan. The star of the course, the eggplant parmesan which came recommended by Chef Luca, came wrapped in cabbage and was topped with a rich, spicy tomato sauce and lots of cheese.
Chef Luca seems to enjoy meeting diners - he visited tables, including ours a couple of times - so we suggest you ask him for recommendations.
For dessert, we had chocolate fondant paired with cinnamon ice cream. I'm not a fan of cinnamon and gave the ice cream a miss, but the oozy fondant chocolate was perfect.
What's for Brunch?
La Terrezza's Sunday brunch is an indulgent affair, with live jazz music, salads, fresh-made pizzas and pasta and soup. We tried their spicy tomato soup - served in little classes - a smooth potato salad and the vegetarian lasagna before hopping across the bar to eat at The Café.
Single Malt & Co
The Café serves a mix of Indian and other Asian food. A live stir fry counter and tandoor kept things hot and fresh. We tried the falafel; delightful, fluffy appams that came with vegetable stew; as well as a spicy potato and tendli vegetable that came with fresh tandoori rotis.
We had to miss dessert - but you mustn't. The day before, we had tucked into a delicious chocolate and banana tart that was completely worth the calories.
