Store Review: Herman Miller

By KYMBERLEE FERNANDES   Jun 7th 2011 at 6:00AM Gadgets RATED

What's hot:

The endless types of chairs for an office or a home. We think the Eames Lounge Chair, the Ottoman and the Embody are the most comfortable.

What's not:

The location - tucked away on the second floor of a Raghuvanshi Mills building, the Herman Miller store takes time to find.

Luxpresso verdict:

Among all the luxe furniture stores around, the Herman Miller store has enough couches, office seating and furniture for home offices and living spaces, which makes it easy shopping for those looking for specific details, right from materials used to ergonomic chairs.

EDITOR'S RATING:

US-based furniture brand Herman Miller opened up its first store in South Mumbai recently. With stylish furniture from reputed designers like Berlin's 7.5 and Charles and Ray Eames, the chair designs and their utility are pretty unique. The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman were made as a gift for movie director Billy Wilder. The heritage of the chair goes back to the moulded plywood chairs pioneered by the Eameses in the 1940s.

If you're looking for a more spine-friendly chair, the Embody is an agile piece designed specifically for people (read, CEOs and the like) who spend long hours sitting before computers. It boasts of being the first work chair that benefits both mind and body.

And while there are some more cool picks to sit on, such as the light Aeron chairs and the Eames aluminium group chairs, the Herman Miller store in Mumbai also has the SAYL chair, affordable, and created by renowned designer Yves Béhar who was inspired by San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

And the Arras tables will add some bright yellows and greens to an office space, taking off the monotony.

Herman Miller, Raghuvanshi Mills Compound, Next to Phoenix Mills, Lower Parel, Mumbai.
