Second-Highest Price Ever Paid For A Lincoln-Signed Copy Of The Document: A rare copy of President Abraham Lincoln's original Emancipation Proclamation ordering the freeing of slaves sold for $2.1 million at auction, making it the second-most expensive Lincoln signed-proclamation (the first went for $3/8 million a few years back).
David Rubenstein, managing director of The Carlyle Group, bought the document from an anonymous American seller.
Just 48 copies were printed in 1863. In the past 40 years, nine of the proclamations have been sold publicly.
