Forty years ago, the launch of the Royal Oak prestige sports watch collection, by Audemars Piguet revolutionised the perception of luxury watches across the globe. This year on its fortieth anniversary, a commemorative Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak Tourbillion was released by the company.
The dial of this exclusive watch is reminiscent of the classic design of the Royal Oak’s collection. The new features of this watch include a 39 mm wide platinum case, white-gold screws on the watch face, corresponding bolts at the back, as well as an astounding 4.46 mm thickness. It is also one of the thinnest tourbillon movement watches ever produced. A majority of the two hundred and sixteen parts of the watch can be viewed clearly, through the skeletal façade of this timepiece. The yellow gold barrel, gear trains and balance contrast beautifully with its anthracite finish giving the watch a feeling of depth despite its slender exteriors.
The sapphire crystal caseback also gives the wearer another view of the internal movement of the watch. With a provision made for viewing the power reserve of the watch on the caseback, Audemars Piguet once again displays its commitment to the easy usability of its watches. The watch case is water resistant to fifty metres of depth. However, the exclusivity of this watch will make you think twice about getting it wet at all!
In keeping with the product’s fortieth anniversary, only forty such watches have been produced making sure the owner of one of these forty is not only the owner of a beautiful finely made watch, but also of an extremely valued collectible.
