Omega's Golden Moment: Jessica Ennis Wins Gold at London Olympics
For those of us who have seen Omega's 'Start Me Up' commercial, amidst all the faces, you see that of Jessica Ennis. The British heptathlete who was unable to compete at the Bejing Olympics owing to injuries, had a crowd of 80,000 fans cheering for her at the heptathlon. She had attached with her all of Great Britain's hopes and she definitely didn't disappoint.
In the first event itself, Jessica set a record for the fastest time ever in a heptathlon 100-metre hurdles competition. There on, there was no looking back. While she was ranked second only in shot put, Jessica's score of 6955 ensured the gold medal around her neck.
The multi-sport specialist and Omega brand ambassador was followed by German Lilli Schwarzkopf and Tatyana Chernova of Russia.
"We’re all thrilled for Jessica. We knew, of course, that she is one of the world’s most talented athletes but this performance –- after all the expectations that were placed on her – prove that she is truly one of the greatest Olympic competitors ever. It was an extraordinary example of grace under pressure," said Stephen Urquhart, President, Omega.
