Clinique’s Skin Care Advice for the Bride-To-Be
Clinique's reference face chart and recommended products for the bride-to-be
Offering a unique product that brings tangible products and invaluable advice in one box, Clinique’s Bridal Trousseau Service has us probing for skin care advice to serve you right through your nuptials. Here’s the India Exclusive!
We recommend you start a month in advance, because signs of correction usually are visible well after 2 weeks of application.
Do not indulge in random bridal facials before your wedding as a lot of them warrant extreme exfoliation or use of products that your skin is unaccustomed to. This could lead to adverse reactions like redness, acne, breakouts… so do a test patch, invest in trial-sized products, and start your work-up at least a month in advance to gauge the after effects.
The important thing to remember here is that you’ve been prepping your skin towards good health so hopefully there’s no damage you need to control. Just ensure that after you apply you skin care products, wait for a good five minutes for them to settle before you head to hair and make up so that your skin thoroughly absorbs the protective product. This will also in turn help create an even base for your make up to sit firmly on.
Find a cleanser to suit your skin type, use a gentle exfoliator twice a day, and moisturise to seal the deal right after. Also, do not worry about over-exfoliating; FYI, we have 15 layers of dead cells on our skin, so gentle exfoliation everyday is essential. It refreshes your skin and has some toning properties too.
PS: Never do you not use a moisturiser just because you have oily skin… use a mild-mannered one and switch to water-based products and gels, but always, always use a moisturiser!
Toners, serums, night creams are all the extras that are off-shoots of basic skin care. They’ve surfaced to target very specific problems—products one should not invest blindly, but only after consultation.
Fix for Acne
The idea is to soothe and cool down the redness of the skin which is best tackled via oil-free products and formulas that use aloe. Shift to a mild exfoliator and continue to cleanse and keep the skin hydrated with a moisturiser at all times.
Also, try and spot the reason for the breakouts which may not necessarily be skin related; Unsuspecting things like unclean make up brushes, wrong make up products, sleeping without removing your make up thoroughly, may have led to your skin condition.
Discolouration & Tan Lines
There are many anti-tanning and correctional products for pigmentation and discolouration but the key is to begin application at least four weeks in advance for the desired results. All the while, you must hold on to your sunblock to prevent further damage and concealers to camouflage the affected areas.
Make note that at no point must you resort to bleaching products of any nature as they dry out your skin extensively, and worse, make your facial hair turn blonde which instantly catches the flashlight of the camera.
Make Up Removal Technique
Wedding make up is colour intense and long-lasting which serves you well during the event but poses quite a strong front when it’s time to take it off. Simple rules to follow:
- Use an oil-based make up remover
- Saturate the cotton with the remover and hold it down on to the target area for two minutes so that it dissolves the make up; clean in a light-handed outward motion.
- There are removers in the market specifically for eyes and lips… buy now!
- Use a Q-tip to take off residue mascara and make up on the inner corners of the eyes.
- If you’re wary of using an oil-based remover because you have oily skin, try a water-based or milk-based remover instead.
- Follow up with the cleanse-exfoliate-moisturise routine.
