Party People: A Big, Fat Political Wedding & Sunanda Tharoor's Birthday Party

Two of Maharashtra's most powerful families are cementing their ties with a wedding. But business is only part of this deal. We understand that crazy, stupid love has a big hand in the upcoming nuptials of Avinash Bhonsle's daughter Swapnali with Vishwajit Kadam, scion of the political dynasty.

Patangrao Kadam's Harvard-educated son who is also the rising star of youth Congress was often spotted with Swapnali after the break up of her engagement with Dilip Vengsarkar's son Nakul. The suave Vishwajit who is a close friend of Swapnali's brother Amit offered a comforting shoulder and the couple became a regular fixture at Pune parties.

The wedding, we learn, has been fixed for August 7, which is surprisingly not a Thursday. Surprising because that is the day of the week Avinash Bhonsle considers most auspicious for all his important business.

Longest Birthday Party Ever

Considering how they still have eyes only for each other, it was not surprising when Shashi Tharoor hosted a dream party for Sunanda far away in exotic Kashmir.

We have learnt that the couple have actually been holidaying there for a few days now, and after Sundanda ushered in her birthday with a high-profile but intimate party at Srinagar, the couple continued with their adventures across the valley with a few of their friends.

The party, held at a five-star, saw a smattering of Bollywood (Dilip Tahil and Rahul Bose among them) and a few celebrities from the south arrive in two chartered flights. J&K CM Omar Abdullah too dropped by to wish Suananda, but politely declined to stay longer or sample the traditional Kashmiri spread.

Using Srinagar as their base, the Tharoors are going off on daylong excursions, and even went to the remote Dachigram for a tea party over a stunning sunset. The celebration will continue till the June 30, probably staking its claim as the longest birthday party ever!
