All eyes were on him. And Sidhartha Mallya did not disappoint. At Mahalaxmi Race Course, on the day of the McDowell's Signature Indian Derby, a nattily dressed Mallya walked in with a lady. Predictably, it was not Deepika Padukone - after all they have reportedly called it quits - but his grandmother.
Mallya junior was later joined by his father, who, we can tell you, looked every bit in form, as he gave away the grand first prize to the filly In The Spot Light. Sadly, his own filly Smashing, emerged second.
Cracking a light joke here and there, and posing with the other star of the day Abhay Deol, Mallya senior was perhaps taking succour from the fact that Smashing had recently won the Indian Oak. And for those squinting hard to see the shadow of the troubled airline on his face, there was plenty of disappointment. Mallya shone bright.
Fascinators at the Derby
The Indian Derby was just as much about extravagant headgear and fashion as it was about the actual horses taking part. Hats off to these women who pulled off some funky headgear, fabulously.
