Goa Beckons Art Lovers as a New Art Residency Comes Up

If you thought that the life has gone out of the art scene in Mumbai, you are probably in Goa, sipping Belgian beer in your diamante flip- flops and soaking in all the colours of the lively canvases. After news of the Salgaocars' art salon comes news of Bina Ramani's art residency.
In fact, Malini Ramani - who has hooked up with artist Julius Macwan in the past for the Congo lounge in Delhi - dropped in at Last Ship, his residency in Bandra last week and pitched the idea. We hear the maverick designer was quite impressed with the Last Ship and is keen to start a similar residency in Goa. The Ramanis own a sprawling Portuguese bungalow with high ceilings, open air showers and lush lawns in the village of Gaitonde. And that is where they intend to start their project.
Incidentally, the proposed residency is also close to where Jitish Kallat has bought a property from the Ramanis. Coming up soon is a call for Indian and international artists, and then a big bash on Bina's birthday, March 10, to commemorate the first round. Given what the Ramanis had done with Hauz Khas and the glamorous company she keeps, this may just turn out to be an interesting space.
