Gina Rinehart Is the World's Richest Woman
A while back, a study predicted Gina Rinehart would overtake Carlos Slim and become the richest person in the world. Well, it looks like the Australian mining magnate is on course to claim the top spot, with her net worth jumping thrice to $28.6 billion.
Previously, Rinehart was worth $18.1 billion and was the 31st richest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
But her change in fortune has helped Rinehart, who controls Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd, jump past Christy Walton, heiress of the Wal-Mart chain of stores (net worth: $26 billion), the previous holder of the 'world's richest woman' title.
As one of the world's self-made women billionaires, the 58-year-old Australian inherited a mining company Hancock Prospecting from her father, and is also a media investor.
Check out the other self-made women billionaires here.
