The last three days have been a blast for the grand old man of the construction business in India, DLF group's Kushal Pal Singh. His party started in DLF Golf Course in Gurgaon on Monday with Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in attendance. We can reveal that the Singhs were actually keen to host Hrithik Roshan, who could not make it for health reasons. Nevertheless, Kumar, we hear, worked his charms on the guests, while Katrina and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy kept them on their feet.
The travelling carnival reached Udaipur on Tuesday by 30 chartered flights. The 400-strong guest list included the Mittals and the Hindujas, and Sant Singh Chatwal among others. But it was Shakira who stole the show. The Colombian sensation arrived in the morning, rehearsed for an hour before making an appearance on the sprawling stage at Jagmandir on Pichola Lake. Shakira's 55-minute electrifying performance was complimented by a fireworks and laser show.
In the stellar gathering of industry leaders and political heavyweights, Bollywood was represented by Shahid Kapoor, Adnan Sami and Kabir Bedi, with Bedi anchoring the show and Sami singing his pop hits, Lift Karade and Bheegi Bheegi.
The guests were then ushered inside for a lavish banquet, though rumours about Ricky Martin making an incognito appearance and Posh Beckham doing a cameo had already caught on like wildfire. For the three cities of Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur, this is the busiest time of the year, what with Hollywood A-listers and India's platinum club heading there for weddings, birthdays and a spot of Maharaja-style luxury.
