Auction Alert: Exceptional Paintings at Saffron Art, Osian
Saffronart will be showcasing an impressive selection of works created by modern masters and contemporary artists at its annual Summer Online Art Auction 2012.
Art maestro SH Raza’s ‘Encountre’ painted by him in 1985, is estimated to fetch between Rs 2,00,00,000 – Rs 2,50,00,000. In this painting, Raza’s signature abstract expressionism gives way to more controlled used of space. Dominated by earthy tones like sienna, red and brown, the painting depicts the searing heat and passion of Central India where he was born and raised.
Art work by other renowned artists like VS Gaitonde, MF Husain, Ganesh Pyne and a strong selection of contemporary Indian art, led by Bharti Kher,Surendran Nair, Subodh Gupta and Jitish Kallat will be showcased at the auction.

What’s On at Osian
This is one of those rare occasions when Tipu Sultan, Mahatma Gandhi and Henry Singleton are present under one roof. Osian's Creative India Series 4 auction will showcase various stills from Tipu Sultan’s illustrious life, created by famous British documentary artist Henry Singleton.
An auction hightlight is the The Assault and the Taking of Seringapatnam, which depicts the iconic battle at Seringapatnam fort, fought between Tipu Sultan's forces and the British army, which resulted in Tipu's death. The painting captures the grim essence of battle and power struggle beautifully. Singleton (1766-1839) was famous for his interpretations of the Bible, Shakespeare as well as historical events.

The art work was originally in the collection of Lord Wellesley, the first duke of Wellington.
In addition to Singleton's work, the collection also features art works of prominent artists like KCS Paniker, FN Souza, Laxma Goud and J Sultan Ali etc. Another highlight is DP Roychowdhury’s famous study, Gandhiji’s March to Dandi.
The Creative India Series 4 auction will be held at the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Mumbai, June 21.
