Auction Alert: 55 YO Glenfiddich For Grabs in India
The oldest woman in Scotland turned 110, and to celebrate her big birthday, a leading supplier, William Grant & Sons, has rolled out a unique plan to honour Janet Sheed Roberts. Eleven bottles of one of the company’s rarest-ever whiskies, a 55-year-old Glenfiddich, have been produced to mark the birthday.
And each of the cumbersomely named Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve bottles will be auction off. Here’s the interesting bit - the money raised will benefit a series of charities. And now, one of the bottles is being auctioned in India. All money raised by the auction will benefit the Lotus Flower Trust, which works towards building schools for disadvantaged children in the remotest parts of India. This auction will help the Lotus Flower Trust to complete the opening of a new school in the Northern Indian town of Ramnagar.
The Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve Auctions until Now
The first bottle fetched £46,850 (approx Rs 39 lakh) at the Bonham’s in December last year and its proceeds were donated to an international charity WaterAid. Another bottle was sold in February for £44,000 (approx Rs 37 lakh) at an event hosted by the UK’s ‘Walking with the Wounded’ charity.
Later at an auction held in New York in March, the Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve sold for £59,252 (approx Rs 50 lakh), making it the most expensive bottle of whisky ever sold at auction. The proceeds benefited Grenier’s sustainability charity SHFT Initiatives.
We totally appreciate how whisky’s helping out charities in such a big way. Cheers to Glenfiddich and Janet Sheed Roberts we say!
