The OUT NYC: New York's First Gay Hotel
New York’s first gay ‘straight-friendly’ hotel, Out NYC, situated in Hell’s Kitchen, opened its doors in January.
New York is a popular destination for most travellers worldwide, but it also is a very popular destination for many gay and lesbian travelers. New York also recently legalised sam-sex marriage. And the LGBT community has another reason to celebrate.
NYC & Company, the official marketing, tourism and partnership organization for the City of New York, recently announced that, “Amidst growing advances in New York’s LGBT community, Parkview Developers announced plans to open New York City’s first gay hotel, THE OUT NYC on March 1, 2012. This straight-friendly urban resort is poised to become a travel and entertainment destination for New Yorkers and visitors alike.”
While LGBT members are accepted in other hotels and resorts, this is a first of its kind that caters to the community exclusively. What with a function space to accommodate everything from intimate private dinners to large events such as same-sex weddings and commitment ceremonies as well as corporate events. Situated in the area known as Hell’s Kitchen on the 42nd Street in the Heart of Manhattan, the complex has many other features that enable visitors/tourists to spend a whole day in the resort.
“This is an idea whose time has come. What makes The Out NYC a desirable hotel is the comfort level and tailored amenities for both the gay and straight communities,” says Ian Reisner, Managing Partner, Parkview Developers. “The Out NYC will become a ‘can’t-miss’ for gay tourists as well as the epicenter of gay life for LGBT New Yorkers. With New York’s recent legislation, we look forward not only to hosting countless gay couples, but marrying them as well.”
The first phase of the project was completed on January 26, this year with the opening of XL Nightclub, Cabaret & Lounge. The XL Nightclub, Cabaret & Lounge spread over 14,000 square feet is the newest project by noted gay nightlife impresarios John Blair and Beto Sutter, and the wunderkind party promoters Brandon Voss and Tony Fornabaio of FV Events. Open seven nights a week, XL Nightclub, Cabaret & Lounge is the first nightly gay dance club to open in New York City in 15 years. The space features an LED wall, two dance floors, and a full stage.
Subsequent phases of the project include the boutique hotel, featuring 105 rooms with an upscale, chic décor and a starting rate of approximately $250.
The restaurant, Kitchin, set to open in May, will be operated by the team behind the already-successful Hell’s Kitchen favorite, Eatery Restaurant. It offer the same style of ‘upscale comfort food’ for which Eatery Restaurant is known.
The building will be centered on three courtyards and a 5,000 square foot wellness center, creating an oasis from the city just outside its doors.
Seems like this is one party that no New Yorker or a visitor should miss.
