This week's big wedding is happening far away in idyllic Mauritius on a pristine beach overlooking the Bay of Baclava. Nandan Piramal, youngest son of the late Ashok and Urvi Piramal, is marrying Anjali Naik, a finance professional and daughter of prominent south Mumbai industrialist Ashok Naik.
Nandan, an alumnus of University College, London, heads the entertainment and sports business of the Ashok Piramal Group, and is the brains behind the Pune Football Club. The three-day intimate affair will be followed by a cocktail over the weekend at a city five-star, for which elegant lotus shaped invites have long been despatched.
The wedding is especially significant for Urvi, who took charge of her share of the ailing family business in 1984 as a 32-year-old widow with three sons (Harsh, Rajeev and Nandan), and turned it into the industry leader that it is today. All in seven years of time. A proud moment for the proud mother indeed.
