Ailing Art: No Takers for Husain, Raza Works at Sotheby's

The buzz around the recently concluded South Asian Modern and Contemporary Summer Auction at Sotheby's is far from encouraging. Meant to coincide with Husain's first death anniversary, three of his works were put up with the highest reserve price. Unfortunately, there were just no takers for any of the paintings. Neither were there any bidders for one of SH Raza's works, expected to fetch a premium.
While none of the top five lots in the Summer auction found buyers, what could come as a blow to Husain fans is that he seems to have slipped from the best-selling lot, according to art experts. Reams are being written about what could have gone wrong, while all eyes are on the upcoming Christie's and Saffronart Auctions, which will feature a handful of Husains and more.
