They are no longer just board games once they are out of your living room and up on a competitive platform. Scheduled to run from December 1-4, the Mind Sports Festival in Prague will see in attendance, hundreds of world renowned players who will compete in popular games like bridge, backgammon, e-sports (League of Legends, Counter Strike: Global Offensive), risk, poker and scrabble.
Besides an engaging turnout and some class act players, what is also set to amaze is a never-seen-before Scrabble system that is all geared to provide you a front row viewing of the tournament in action.
Equipped to give the viewer an almost live feed (delay of 974 milliseconds), this hi-tech system uses RFID technology to feed and transmit all the on-goings on the Scrabble board instantaneously.
Nine RFID circuit boards help keep a close tab on each square and additional boards help track the player’s tile racks as well.
With a compatible software designed to convert every step of the game to a format ready for broadcast and online streaming, this scrabble tournament is touted to be nothing like you’ve seen before.
Given all the mechanics, a carbon fiber makeover and an integrated RGB controlled LED lighting system, the price of producing the most expensive scrabble tournament system justifiably stands at £20,000.
