What Is Christina Aguilera Wearing?

Burlesque, the Hollywood musical starring pop signers Cher and Christina Aguilera is one big glitter fest.

The costumes, designed by Michael Kaplan (he's been nominated for a Costume Designers' Guild award for his Burlesque outfits), are made from everything including feathers, leather, pearls, gold coins and come 2,50,000 Swarovski crystals.

For one song, Kaplan fitted Aguilera in a bikini made mostly of pearls (see pic above); in another, she wore a Madonna-esque conical bustier studded with shimmering crystals. And in the movie's finale, Aguilera was dressed in a short golden number that was hand-made by linking gold coins and crystals together. 


Kaplan told the LA Times that Nadja Swarovski, creative director and VP of international communications at Swarovski loved what she saw in the finale "because she said she was very moved. And a few days later she called and asked me if I would design a line of jewelry for Swarovski, which I just completed."

Burlesque's sets department too, relied heavily on Swarovski elements to add glamour to the film - the burlesque club's curtains were made up of 80,000 crystals weighing 1.3 tonnes.
