Prada's 50s-Inspired Spring Summer 2012 Couture Line
Renowned Italian fashion label, Prada has launched its new couture Spring-Summer 2012 line that has enamoured fashionistas. The fashion house pays a very stylisgh tribute to the 1950's through shoes, bags, scarfs, sunglasses and dresses. But what the collection primarily pays tribute to is the automobile rage that swept through the 50's with specifically the all-American vintage Cadillacs and hot rods.
While the Cadillac features a lot as a print in the dresses and appliqué designs on bags, the collection burns some serious rubber with the bold, grandiose and edgy pumps, sandals and wedges that feature heels decorated with automotive parts such as spoilers, wings, taillights, chrome accents, and even hot rod-like flames. The edgy shoes with leather appliqués, with flames that seem to burst off the back of the heels in a very eye-catching fashion. These pairs are set off by another design that is embellished with vintage tail lights, which are not as 'aggressive.' It was these shoes that really set the ramp ablaze thanks to flame accents, patent cut-outs, light embellishments, and color-blocking schemes and are bound to make a very flamboyant statement.
The collection while romanticising the 1950's evokes a sense of women empowerment very much like that era and aims to inspire to step 'out of the box' with these quirky heels that are a perfect mix of sweet with sassy. The Cadillac Coupe de Ville heels cost as much as $1,450 a pair and do require a huge dose of confidence to wear but will surely make it to the list of must-haves for the true shoe lover who also has a penchant for cars.
