Lamborghini completes 50 years this year and the launch of the new Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster marks the start of the brand's celebrations in India. This open-top luxury super sports car, that has captivated auto enthusiasts all over, perfectly embodies performance, design, technology and engineering excellence. Pavan Shetty, Head of Operations, Lamborghini India, tells us more about the Aventador Roadster and also reveals what the brand has in store for us.
How would you describe the journey for Lamborghini India till now? How is India as a market and how does it place in your list of top markets?
Lamborghini officially entered India in 2006. Since then, India has shown a steady acceptance of the super car culture. We see a lot of enthusiasts realising their aspirations through the purchase of super cars. India is still at a nascent stage but signs of maturity have started showing up. Right now, we are expecting India to be a significant contributor to our Asia growth story.
Tell us about the Aventador Roadster. What makes it stand out from other luxury cars in the market?
The Aventador Roadster offers a true open air experience without compromising vehicle performance and behaviour. The new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster can immediately be recognised by the unique profile of its upper area, which extends along newly designed geometric lines from the removable roof to the engine hood. The two-piece roof is made entirely from carbon fiber using various technologies such as RTM and Forged Composite. These technologies guarantee maximum aesthetic performance and stiffness even though each component is extremely light, weighing less than six kg. The car boasts record performance. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only three seconds flat and has a maximum speed of 350 km/h.
What's going on in the supercar market currently?
The traditional super car buyers have become very active in forming clubs and taking driving initiatives to the next level, whether it involves planning a Sunday drive or super car shows or even a get together for like-minded people, they are contributing in a big way to create awareness of the thrills of owning these cars. Bigger development is focused on a totally new set of customers - people who are successful, self-made, young and believe in keeping a low profile. This trend is very encouraging and the significantly bigger base will drive growth in future.
How do you see luxury car design evolving in the next few years?
Luxury cars have evolved in a big way in the last two decades. The designs are break through and are developed keeping the DNA in mind. Loads of comfort, safety and features leading to efficiency are getting added with every generation.
What is the plan for Lamborghini for the next few years in India?
In the next few years, Lamborghini India will strive to give an unparalleled ownership experience to its customers starting right from purchase all the away to upgrading to another Lamborghini. The intention is get Indian customer experience on par with the experience of customers in the more developed countries. This will be achieved through relevant presence and being close to customers as much as possible to offer sales and service solutions, taking the ownership experience to a global level and creating platforms where customers can come together and enjoy these super products that we manufacture.
The Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster costs Rs 4,77,50,000 and will be available from mid 2013 at Lamborghini showrooms nationwide.
