Luxury Reads: Books Chart Histories of LV & Savile Row
You love your Louis Vuittons. Especially the trunks and suitcases that you travel with. Want to know the story behind the legendary luxury luggage brand? You can read it in Louis Vuitton: 100 Legendary Trunks. The book talks about the journey of how the trunks came to being - after LV founder Georges Vuitton realised the need for more practical luggage.
It also talks about the 100 greatest trunks made by the luxury brand over the years. These were created for movie stars like Douglas Fairbanks; designers Jeanne Lanvin, Karl Lagerfeld and other celebrities. Written by Pierre-leon-Forte, the book is priced at $125 (Rs 5,600).
Louis Vuitton is not the only luxury brand, whose story has been converted into a book. Bespoke: The Men’s Style of Savile Row talks about the history of tailoring at the premium brand for men’s wear. The London-based luxury men’s clothing brand is known for custom tailoring for its customers for generations.
Bespoke profiles 26 of today’s master tailors from legendary firms like Gieves & Hawkes and Henry Poole to the recent one like Nutters and Ozwald Boateng, the first Savile Row tailor to stage a ramp show in Paris.
The book also features pictures of Hollywood stars Michael Caine, in double-breasted suit by Douglas Hayward, Jude Law in Kilgour and David Beckham in a Timothy Everest suit. This book is priced at $65 (Rs 2,900).
