How is Indian skin different from its western counterparts?

Indian skin has more melanin in it, which acts as a major factor against ageing. It protects the skin from the sun and Indian women age slower. There are various skin tones in India ranging from fair to wheatish - and that's the beauty of Indian skin.

What are the common makeup mistakes that most women make?

The most common mistake women, more so most Indian women make is to wear a regular brown lipstick  as they are afraid to try vibrant shades like red, pink and coral. That's just depressing because if you find the right shade, you can look very chic.

How would you correct the same?

I would start by wearing lipstick shades that are not brown. My advice is, if you're scared to wear a very bright shade, start by wearing it like a stain. You can do this by dabbing the colour in the centre of your lips and smudging.

What are the makeup trends that we can look forward to in 2012?

Orange lips, nude matt skin and winged eyeliners are going to be really in this season.

What are the colours that are going to be really big this year?

I think orange and blue are going to be really big.

What are the three makeup products that every woman should have?

A foundation, a tinted lip balm and a mousse or cream blusher.

With summer just around the corner, what's your makeup advice to women?

With the temperatures soaring, I'd recommend keeping the makeup simple with just the lips highlighted in a lovely, bright shade. Doing this will also make you look younger.

Any essential beauty tips?

A sunscreen is a must, even if you're sitting at home!
