Chanel's Dominique Papadopoulos: A Painterly Vision

Chanel makeup artist Dominique Papadopoulos tells Time 'n Style Beauty about the trends and tips for the season

How do you think Indian women are different from their western counterparts, especially when it comes to using beauty products?

I believe that all women are different and you should enhance your beauty according to individual needs. Each person has something unique about her features that makeup helps to enhance. At Chanel, for instance, we keep the singularity of each woman in mind while creating the colours.

What, according to you, are the common makeup mistakes women make?

Women tend to choose the wrong shade of foundation; often choosing a shade too light as they try it on the back of their hand which is not the same colour as your face. A foundation is used to even out your skin tone and not to make it lighter. Always apply a small drop of foundation on the jaw line, which is typically the lighter part, and side of the forehead, which is darker instead of the back of the hand, as the skin colours are not the same, while picking up a foundation.

Give us your top three makeup tricks that women must master.

Get your base right; choose the right shade of foundation. Always use mascara to add some length to your lashes. And enhance your cheekbones with the right shade of blush, depending on your skin tone.

What makeup trends from the ramp will make it big this year?

If I had to pick one, it would definitely be the look from the Chanel Spring/Summer 2012 show. Pale, glowing skin with a pink/coral blush, a wet shiny eyelid finished with black eyeliner and slightly glossy lips. The entire look is fresh with a pearly glow.

Who has been your creative influence throughout your makeup artistry career?

Peter Phillips, Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, has been my biggest influence.

What are the products you swear by?

Chanel Soin Tendre Levres (lip balm), Perfection Lumiere foundation with India specific shades and Le Sourcils De Chanel (eyebrow pencil).
