Tell us a little bit about the latest range of Estee Lauder products that are must-haves for Spring/Summer.

Matthew Tyler

Cyber Eyes collection features eyeshadows in richly-pigmented shades with a futuristic, hyper-metallic finish, eye pencils that define eyes in chic hues, and mascaras that create a lush display of vibrant colour.

How are Indian women different from their western counterparts when it comes to beauty?

Matthew Tyler

In my experience, I’ve come to learn that Indian women like beauty products and oils containing ingredients that are natural, in contrast to Western women, who pay more attention to the scientific technology behind the product.

What, according to you, are the common makeup mistakes we make?

Matthew Tyler

It’s not a mistake, but more a result of cultural conditioning, wherein women apply kajal underneath their eyes. This accentuates dark circles and under-eye puffiness. What I recommend is that you apply it on the top and bottom lash lines to create a more balanced look or, just on the top to accentuate the eye.

What are the top three makeup tricks to master to enhance the strong features?

Matthew Tyler

The first would be the correct application of foundation, which a lot of Indian women don’t like to wear. Secondly, mastering the technique of applying eyeliner seamlessly on the top lash line. This means making sure you don’t leave spaces between the lashes. The third trick would be knowing how to apply eye shadow on the crease line and arching the brow to bring focus to the eye.

What makeup trend from the ramp will make it big this year and how can we adapt it in daily life?

Matthew Tyler

Vibrant shades of electric blue, teal, stimulating copper, silver and fiery purple and green are colours that are quite popular. For the day, try a dry application for a subtle shine paired with a light mouth, and go with a wet application for a hyper-metallic flash of colour in the night.

Which colour is expected to rule this season?

Matthew Tyler

Colours like bright teal are the flavour of the season. The best way to wear a bright colour is to lightly apply it all over the eyelid. For day wear, it’s best to wear the colour on the lash line for a pop!

What are the products you swear by?

Matthew Tyler

I believe that makeup doesn’t look good without moisturised skin, which is why I swear by Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, which I apply underneath the moisturiser and foundation. My favourite makeup product is Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup which is heatproof, humidity-proof and stays in place for 25 hours.

What are the three products women should always carry in their bag?

Matthew Tyler

They would have to be a lipstick, pressed powder and her favourite fragrance.

One woman you'd like to work with...

Matthew Tyler

It would have to be Lady Gaga! It’s fun to be wild and crazy and she is someone who I think would be open to trying something different.
