Akanksha Aggarwal Talks Luxury & Bathroom Bling
These opulent bathroom accessories have given million-dollar bathroom the world over that extra dazzle. That's why Sherle Wagner's embellished fitting, which often come in gold or studded with semi-precious stones are the favourite of celebs, royals and billionaires alike.
The brand, which has finally been brought to India by Akanksha Aggarwal of PRA Ventures, comes at a time when the Indian appetite for luxury bathrooms is growing.
Mumbai girl Akanksha, who has roots in a film family, brought the luxury bathroom brand to India after meeting up with Sherle Wagner's CEO, Evan Geoffroy, through some common friends and realised the potential of the Indian market. With her banker-real estate developer husband Rohit Aggarwal help, she has set up the first Sherle Wagner store at the Oberoi Towers.
Here are edited excerpts from the interview:
How much thought do you think Indians put into the design of a bathroom?
Well, we are aware that it is a nascent market for luxury products in India. If you look at quality of construction, it has dramatically changed in the last few years. Developers are also putting much more emphasis on layouts, designs and products that are being used.
First we saw a transition in the quality of kitchens in India with the introduction of brands like Hacker, Poggen Pohl and Veneto Cuccini. Now, it's time to improve bathrooms to international standards.
How will potential clients respond to Sherle Wagner in India?
Sherle Wagner is considered to be the most luxurious bathroom fittings in the world. From royal families and celebrities to billionaires - SW is always the only choice. Multi-million dollar homes, yachts and country estates are known to use SW as the clients are unwilling to compromise.
Our designs are very versatile and everlasting. Many of their collections have been successful over decades. While Sherle Wagner is open to customisation, its designs have a global appeal. I feel the semi-precious stone collections in particular will do very well in India.
The wealth creation in India is a well-known story, as is apparent from the invasion of global luxury brands to feed discerning millionaires' appetites. SW in India will also target the affluent families who work with the best interior designers in the country and can appreciate the quality and brand value of our products.
Additionally SW will be marketed to premium hotels and upscale residential developments.
What is available off the shelf at the showroom?
The showroom will carry bathroom fittings, bathroom fixtures, bathroom accessories, hardware, lighting and wallpaper all from the Sherle Wagner catalogues. SW is the only company in the world that provides such a vast range of matching products for every collection. All SW showrooms in India will display the full range of products. The showrooms are designed to look like a jewellery box!
Any more stores planned for India?
The Mumbai store has just opened at the Oberoi in Nariman Point. The Delhi store will be opening before the year end. As for the rest of the affluent pockets across India, we will cover through our dealership network, a select group of retailers that only deal in premium brands.
