kitsch and fashion

One of the country's best-stocked international designerwear stores, Kitsch celebrated fashion with a unique art installation in Delhi. Mannequins, artfully arranged around a bright "KITSCH" sign, displayed both men's and women's runway collections and accessories for the week. Here's what the lady behind it all - Priya Sachdev - has to say

Kymberlee Fernandes

What was the inspiration of the installation?

Priya Sachdev

The inspiration is surrealism. I have played with our brand name KITSCH, with bright lights and the colour hot pink, with mannequins placed in a dramatic and hurried manner around the word Kitsch wearing the Spring Summer 2012 collection runway looks for men and women. The focus was on the elements of colour, shape and composition to build a three dimension KITSCH.

Kymberlee Fernandes

Who has styled each of the looks?

Priya Sachdev

Each look was styled by Charu Sachdev and me, keeping in mind the spring/summer trends globally and individual brand style. The real highlights of the collection were the Victoria Beckham runway looks and the Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Caba Chic Bags, which are global fashion rage and must haves!

What is your favourite fashion trend right now?

Priya Sachdev

For the men, spring/s2012 trends include the Alexander McQueen fire silk jacquard jacket, the  iconic YSL logo belt, McQueen iconic skull loafer and McQueen bright colour t-shirt for the fabulous vacation. For hotter days look for a nice pair of YSL Bermuda shorts which can be worn with a McQueen tee.

For all the fashionistas neon colour dresses from Victoria Beckham, Hervé Leger, Diane von Furstenberg (DVF) and oversize accessories like the YSL Caba Chic bag, Celine luggage tote and Stella McCartney Falabella bags in bright orange, electric blues, yellow. I also love evening gowns by DVF, chic trouser suits by Stella McCartney and knock-out flesh-baring mini dresses by McQueen complemented with McQueen skull clutches.

What are further plans for Kitsch? Can we expect any new designers or brands on board in the near future?

Priya Sachdev

We are opening Kitsch in Pune. We have just launched Victoria Beckham, Rag & Bone, Catherine Malandrino and YSL women accessories!!

Priya Sachdev is a Delhi-based entrepreneur and co-owns Kitsch with her sister Charu Sachdev.
